Penjelasan dan Contoh Yes or No Question – Dalam bahasa Inggris, terdapat dua tipe dasar kalimat tanya, yaitu: yes-no question dan Wh-question. Yes no question juga sering disebut dengan pertanyaan tertutup alasannya hanya akan ada dua jawaban yang mungkin, ialah yes or no (ya atau tidak). Dalam menciptakan kalimat yes-no question, kita memakai verb (kata kerja) seperti berikut ini: be, do, have, atau modal. Secara grammar dan juga dalam bahasa tulis, sungguh tidak diusulkan membuat kalimat yes-no question tanpa kata kerja yang telah disebutkan tersebut.

Membuat Pertanyaan Yes or No Question

1. Gunakan to be untuk menanyakan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan identitas atau deskripsi perihal orang, daerah, atau benda. Gunakan to be pula untuk menawarkan respon, gunakan to be yang tepat dengan tenses pertanyaan. Respon yang diberikan dapat dalam bentuk singkat atau panjang. Perhatikan teladan berikut ini:

2. Gunakan to be untuk menanyakan suasana yang sedang terjadi. Hal ini menggunakan present continuous : to be + (verb+ing).

3. Gunakan to be untuk menanyakan sesuatu dalam bentuk pasif.

4. Gunakan HAVE/HAS + S + past participle (V3) untuk menanyakan apakah seseorang sudah melakukan sesuatu atau belum.

5. Gunakan kata kerja DO untuk menanyakan perihal fakta perihal orang, tempat, atau hal lain.

6. Gunakan kata kerja MODAL untuk menanyakan ihwal kemungkinan dan ketidakpastian.

Ingat: Ketika bertanya dengan DO atau MODAL, kata kerja yang mengikuti verb tersebut mesti dalam bentuk dasar, tanpa awalan atau pun akhiran.

Tetapi, jika terdapat dua kata kerja (verb) yang mengikuti DO, verb keduanya haruslah dalam bentuk infinitive ( dengan to)
